Photo Quality

How do I choose the right photo for high-quality printing?

Choosing the right photo makes all the difference! Here’s what to look for:

  • High resolution: Aim for photos with at least 2000 pixels on the shortest side to keep your prints sharp and detailed.
  • Correct aspect ratio: Match your photo’s shape to the print size you want. You can crop or adjust it if needed.
  • Good colour quality: Pick images with vibrant, balanced colours. Try to avoid photos that are too dark (underexposed) or too bright (overexposed).
  • Use the original image: Always upload the original file if you can. Screenshots or images saved from messages are often lower quality and can look blurry.
  • Recommended file types: For the best results, upload your photo as a .jpg or .png.

Taking a little extra care when selecting and preparing your photo will make sure your print looks amazing!

What resolution should my photo have?

For top print quality, your photo should meet these resolution guidelines:

  • General rule: The shortest side of your image should be at least 2000 pixels. For larger prints, aim for 3000 pixels or more.
  • Pixels vs. DPI: Pixels measure your photo’s size on screen. DPI (dots per inch) measures how sharp your image looks when printed - higher DPI = sharper details.

Tips for choosing the right resolution:

  • Viewing distance: The closer the print will be viewed, the higher the resolution should be.
  • Surface texture: Smooth surfaces (like acrylic or aluminium prints) need higher resolution than textured ones (like canvas or wood).
  • Product size: Bigger products = bigger image needed to keep the quality sharp.

Which file format should I use?

You can upload files in .jpg (.jpeg), .png, .gif, or .webp formats to create your photo product.

Here’s how each format affects print quality:

  • .jpg (.jpeg): Great all-rounder! Ideal for colourful photos with a good balance between quality and file size.
  • .png: Excellent quality, especially for images with sharp edges or transparent backgrounds. Slightly larger file size than .jpg.
  • .gif: Best for simple graphics with few colours - not recommended for high-quality photo prints.
  • .webp: A modern format offering high quality with smaller file sizes - ideal for detailed, high-quality prints.

Tip: For most prints, .jpg or .png will give you the best results!

Can I edit my photos after uploading them and what should I edit beforehand?

Our editor keeps things simple! After uploading, you can:

  • Drag to adjust the print area
  • Zoom in and out

For more advanced edits - like adjusting colours, removing blemishes or detailed cropping - we recommend editing your photo before uploading using photo editing software. This way, your photo will be fully optimised for printing and you'll get the best possible result!
